Animatic

Here is a link that will take you to our Animatic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUke-6xZQgA

The song that you hear in this Animatic is not going to be the actual song in our trailer but we thought we'd use this one for now to get an idea what it is going to be like. Another thing that i think as a group we are going to change is where the transitions are. Once we have uploaded our film clips to pinnacle we will be trying out different ideas with transitions and music to create a film trailer to the best of our ability.

As you can see from the opening of the trailer we have used 4 different companies that produce our film. The main one which everybody will know is Universal studio's. We researched into which company produced the most Rom-Coms and universal was the main one. We then added in two other productions. We used 3 as there is not always 1 production company for films. At first we were unsure if trailers had the productions at the beginning or end of the trailer. From researching into the trailersToystory 3 & Twillight  we found out that they do come at the beginning of trailer. These titles will only last a few seconds long leading into a transition that takes you to the clip.

Our opening to the film clips is a title saying 'He had found Faith.' We have used the colours blue and pink to show the colours of boy and girl. We started with this as it introduces the trailer and catches attension of an audience. At this point the music will kick in.

Our next clip is of the happy couple together taking photos outside a cinema. We wanted to introduce the two main characters together at the beginning to show who stars in the film and give an idea what it will be about. This clips relates to a rom-com by using a couple in the clip.
The photos they are taking outside the cinema are later seen in the boys bedroom in later clips.

We then go back to another title. This is good because if we lose audiences interest hopefully that could grab their attention again. This is also written in the colours blue and pink. The title says 'But he was hopeless.' This gives an impression that he is not good enough for the girl. A targetted audience may want to know more on how he is not good enough and this work well in getting them to watch it.

The next few clips are going to be a montage. They will be fast clips showing how the boy is hopeless. This is the comical part of our film. He will be doing clumsy things in these clips such as: spilling, hitting and breaking things.

We then go to another title 'She'd had enough.' This applies that some point in the film she leaves him. This is very typical for a rom-com.

It then goes to a close up of the girl ripping up the images taken outside the cinema and also a close up on him being really upset. This leaves an audience thinking will he get her back? or is it too late? The use of close up will work well as it catches the emotions of both their faces.

We then see the title of our film. 'Losing Faith.' I really like this title as it suggests 2 things. The first is that his losing the girl named Faith and the second is that his losing Faith in their relationship and trying to win her back. I feel this is really catchy for a film title and people will be interested in watching.

It then cuts to a title saying 'Coming Soon' which all trailers do at the end. Some of them produce a date it is coming out but we have not decided if we are going to do that yet.

Altogether we are all set to film our clips and we have a good idea on how we want it to turn out. I feel we may struggle with getting a music clip for the background so this is something we need to put a lot of thought into.

Today we are going to be taking our photos for a film cover. Before we jump in and take images I thought the best thing to do is research into other film posters and covers so we can get an idea of the colours used and how the couple pose.
Here is a sample of what I researched:
The film 'The ugly truth' seems to be the most like our ideas of a poster. This is because of how the actors are positioned and their actions are not connected like the propostal. Another thing that is the same with our film poster is the white background. By having a white background it helps the image and writing stand out from the page whereas if they had a setting in the background the actors wont stand out. The colour scheme of our film is pink and blue. We chose these colours as they are romantic and suggests a rom-com.

Filming ideas

In our latest lesson we have been gathering new ideas of what clips we could use in our trailer. We came to the conclusion that we needed more than one boy picking up books and a girl having an attitude and knocking books out of people's hands. The question we came across was why does this girl have an attitude problem? An idea that had been said that having her dad being a transexual and this gives us the genre of comedy. The romance would come in with the boy and girl falling in love.

Clumsy Boyfriend:
The next idea we came up with was having the couple falling in love but the boyfriend being clumsy. By him being clumsy throughtout the film it adds humor and gives us a reason for the couple splitting up. The film is about him making mistakes and losing the girl he loves. He then tries to win her back but does he suceed?

What can he do to loose her?
Our next step was to create the problems that he causes. We wanted to write a list down so we knew what we could get clips of to put into our trailer. These clumsy moments were:
  • Him spilling a drink over her.
  • At the dance he treds on her toe.
  • In the car as they go to kiss/hug he pushes on the handbreak and the car roles backwards.
  • Embarrases her infront of her friends.
We were going to shot each of these clips and use the best ones in our trailer.

Rough ideas

For our course work this year we are to design a teaser trailer for a movie of the genre we pick. We are also told to create a poster and a magazine front cover to go with it.

My group has decided to create a rom-com film.
The name of our film is: Hating Faith
Age group: 13 - 19 year olds.
Storyline: A kind boy falling in love with a horrible girl.

These are some of our first ideas for what we are going to base our film on. We still need to create poster ideas, magazine ideas and a storyboard of our opening. Before we create these things we need to research into some Rom-coms which are ready made. This is our next step.
